Number Recognition cards

Math concepts are best developed through frequent discovery opportunities. Here are two simple activities that focus on number recognition through art and play. We’ve included links to our free printables for these projects.

Number Recognition project

Number Recognition

Get Started

  1. Begin by cutting ten slots in the top of your box. Each slot should be large enough for a craft stick to slide into.
  2. Below each slot write a number from 1 through 10.
  3. Allow your child to color each Garbage Truck (Line-Art version). Then, cut out each garbage truck. There are two versions included in each printable set. In the first version, each garbage truck displays a numeral. The second version of garbage trucks display a set of dots.
  4. Glue one garbage truck number card to each craft stick. Glue the corresponding garbage truck dot card to the opposite side of the craft stick.

Have your child insert the Garbage Truck Number Sticks into the matching slots on the box.  As an alternative, have your child match dots on the number sticks to the written numeral on the box.

  2. Optional: Glue each garbage truck number card to the corresponding garbage truck dot card.  If you don’t glue the cards, you can allow your child to match the individual cards.
  3. Help your child review the numbers on each card.  Use the dots on the reverse side to review and reinforce the value of the written numeral.
